Basic Tomato Sauce (vegan, gluten-free)

Your basic red sauce can be used on pasta, pizza, shakshuka, and sandwiches.  You can add more vegetables, like zucchini and peppers.  If you want to use fresh herbs, add them after cooking the sauce to preserve their potency.
There are many ways to make a tomato sauce, this is mine:

Recipe:
1 large (29 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 small onion
3 cloves of garlic
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tsp. hot red pepper flakes or hot ground paprika
1 tsp. ground black pepper
2 tsp. kosher salt

 Method:
1. Dice onion and garlic.
2. Add onion and garlic to a medium stock pot on low-med heat with olive oil and water.
3. Cook and stir until tender, making sure the onions and garlic do not brown.
4. Add crushed tomatoes and spices.
5. Cook on low-med heat for at least 20 minutes stirring occasionally.
6. Serve hot or keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

ENJOY!
