Sweet Potato Fries (vegan, gluten-free)
Everyone I know loves sweet potato fries. Most restaurants seem to have added them as an option. However, when I get the craving for their orange sweetness, I do what I usually do and make them at home.
If you've made french fries at home then you will be familiar with this recipe. Its the same exact process. You may deep fry your fries, I tend to bake them. So I applied my years of french fry potato baking and lent them to this recipe. I added onion to my mix, its optional. I enjoy crunchy onions as much as potatoes.
The Basics:
1. Cook sweet potato fries
2. Eat sweet potato fries!
Recipe:
3-4 sweet potatoes
1 small onion (optional)
2 tbs. Olive oil
1/2 tsp. Paprika
Salt and Pepper
Method:
1. Wash sweet potatoes well. Use a scrub brush on the skin and rinse to remove all dirt.
2. Slice potatoes into a general fry form. These are about half an inch thick.
3. Slice onion into strips.
4. On a baking sheet toss sliced potatoes and onions with olive oil, paprika, salt and pepper. Add more olive oil if the fries aren't completely coated.
5. Make sure potatoes have enough space to lay flat on the pan.
5. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.
Assembling the Mess:
1. Take your fries out of the oven and remove from pan with a spatula.
2. Place on a cooling rack/baking rack.
3. Let sit for 1-2 minutes to cool. This step will ensure the fries stay crispy.
4. Eat plain or with condiments. I use ketchup but a chipolte aioli would be nice.
ENJOY!
